A call for decorating help

OK, people. You were all very helpful when I was painting my kitchen, so I have another project for you. We are (finally) going to redo our bedroom. Currently, it is a lovely shade of old, peeling wallpaper and cracked peeling horrible blue trim and a disgusting peeling popcorn ceiling with an ugly old naked-bulbed ceiling fan. I'm not even going to show you a picture right now because I find it terribly embarrassing that the bedroom is still in this state after having lived in this house for three years.

But here is my problem: I cannot handle the sheer amount of choices available to me for curtains and bedding. We have loose plans to paint the room a pale-ish purple with a darker purple behind the bed, but I am at my wit's end in trying to find curtains and a duvet cover that will complement this. I'm looking for dark ones with a print that isn't too girly. Does anyone know where I can find something that doesn't cost a million dollars?

I wanted to do purple in our bedroom, but Dave said NO. But what I wanted to do was paint the walls a very light shade of gray and do an eggplant colored duvet. It's a very nice color combo, I think.

We got our duvet at west elm. They have some lovely things, and none of it is girly, in my opinion.

No clue as to where to get the curtains/bedspread. BUT - if you want to remove the popcorn from the ceiling, get a large garden sprayer. Fill it with water and spray the ceiling until it is starting to drip. Then just scrap it with a flat scraper/mudding knife. It will come off easily and fairly cleanly.

I like the deep purples. Good choice.

I don't know where you are, but do you have an IKEA close? They ususally have nice duvets that aren't terribly costly. Or have you checked online? Penneys often has some really great deals on duvets/comforter sets...and I can almost always find something through the Domestications catalog website. www.domestications.com

Good luck! Can't wait to hear about your finished and beautiful room!

I don't really know, but we have had luck at HomeGoods and Target of all places! This is very exciting...I can't wait to see the finished product!
