Yes, he has been rethinking that statement

Andrew and I are practicing hypnobirthing techniques on our own this time around. (We practice on Friday nights because that is the sort of action-packed life we lead.) Since we took a class last time, "practicing" consists of Andrew reading me scripts while I get very comfortable and focus on relaxing. And even though this is not exactly a hardship on either of us, we both regard it as a bit of a chore when all we really want to do is veg out in front of the TV.

Which is why, last Friday, Andrew moaned and groaned and said to me, "At least you have the EASY part."

He kind of wishes he hadn't said that.

DUDE. Also, hahahaha!

I think you need to make sure to remember his exact phrasing so you can say it to him while you are in labor, at least a dozen times. An hour.

Okay, at least you can see where he is coming from. But yeah, in the long run, you have the harder job for sure!

I would be using that phrase pretty much every time he has an Unpleasant Something going on in his life. Forever.

Snort. Maybe you can turn this into one of your relaxing mantras: "At least I have the easy part....at least I have the easy part...."

(By the way, hey! Cool blog!)

So, hypnobirthing! Very cool. We used Bradley (and during a hard induction at that), and I can't say enough good things about it. OK, granted, we ended up with a c-section in the end, so I can't speak informed-ly about how it works all the way through...but wow, I'm a fan. I take it the hypno has worked well for you?

On a serious/cool note, Jo over at the modernity ward (formerly leery polyp) wrote a staggering post about the birth of her second daughter. She talks about mentally reciting the "shma Israel" in Hebrew during each pushing contraction: Shma Israel, Adonai Eloheynu, Adonai Echad." (Forgive my transliterated spelling, please.) "Hear, O Israel, the Lord is God, the Lord is One." And I get chills and tears in my eyes just thinking about it even now. It gets me even more after I read a translation by a rabbi: "Listen, you who wrestle with God..." How's that for a mantra?

HA! He will never live it down.

I STILL tell the story, eight years running now, of when Zack was a newborn and getting me up every hour and half. Matt woke up one morning and said "HEY, he slept through the night!". I replied "No ASSHOLE, YOU slept through the night, we were up four times".

I would say "At least I have the easy part" as a response to pretty much anything for the next twenty or thirty years.
