Stolen

Stolen

On Friday, I found a surprise package in my mailbox from Jessica. I was so excited! Fun Mail Day! But when I opened it, I found 1) A card and 2) Nothing else.

Upon reading the card, I discovered that Jessica had sent me delicious cookies handily prepackaged in a freezer bag for easy freezing. Had she not included a card explaining this I would have had no idea, because inside the box there were no cookies to be found. But here’s the thing: I had to cut through tape on every side of the box in order to open it. There is no way a freezer bag full of cookies just slipped out through a crack.

So it seems there is a cookie thief out there in the post office. I think it was an inside job, because why else would the cookie thief reseal the box? Why not just… take the box? Was the cookie thief taunting me by making sure I got the card? Should I interpret the resealing of the box as someone saying, “Ha ha! I ate your cookies!” Or was the cookie thief just afraid that if the discarded box was discovered in the post office trash barrel, then the whole cookie-thieving-ring would be discovered and brought to justice?

I don’t know, but I could really use a cookie.

Ooh, I didn't realize you had to cut through tape. Was it priority mail tape? Because I used clear packing tape, so that would definitely mean it was an inside job.

This is VERY BIZARRE.

How weird. It makes me want to mail you some cookies to see what will happen. But I think I should wait until I'm back in North America. Cookies from Holland might be a tad stale by the time they arrive. :)

We should do an experiment: We'll all send cookies, and we can see how many make it through.

I think Jessica is messing with you.

Except I don't really. I got the same box and card from her too, only mine also contained actual cookies. So this narrows down the thief to your area or my cookies would have been in danger too.

This is about the weirdest thing ever. Who steals cookies out of the mail?

That is so weird. What kind of world do we live in? And how did they know there were cookies in there?

Do you think they saw an x-ray and, knowing it was cookies, THEN steal them, or do you think they opened your box with the intention of stealing whatever was inside? HMMMMMM.

I just sent you cookies as a test. As a drove away from the post office, I realized that this example would be useless because I used a priority mail box, not a taped box.
I FAIL AT SCIENCE.

I was horrified when I read this on Twitter. It is the lowest of lows to steal COOKIES out of a PACKAGE.
